I recently started barefoot running. I $%$@# it up the first time - too eager. Scraped up my feet and pulled a muscle in the front of my shin. Side lined me for THREE weeks.

Instead of blaming the barefoot running sport, I blamed me. Yup! And that is where the problems start in the barefoot running critics - IMHO.

This post is so dead on - barefoot running should NOT hurt. The fact that I was in pain was my own damn fault. So after my three weeks of being completely sidelines...I did it again - started it up two weeks ago.

I ran for 10 minutes barefoot (vs. the 40 minutes I did my first time out - no joke). My muscles were sore - but not injured. I reseted two days. Did it again....ran 10 minutes barefoot - same result (sore muscles, but not injured).

Now, two weeks later, today, I ran 20 minutes barefoot. NO pain whatsoever - not even in muscles. Now, my muscles just feel...well... nearly relaxed. Worked out, but a certain relaxation to them I don't get in shoes (or is "shod" the fancy word - LOL :)

The moment I feel my feet "scraping" the ground, I remind myself to pick my feet up. The moment I know I've scraped it too much, and my feet hurt, I immediately put my shoes back on.

My feet tell me everything I need to know about my legs and back. It is awesome running barefoot. This article of yours helped me validate that what I did wrong was truly stupid. But what I'm doing right is ...well... all right! Thanks for a great post!
