Liberal Crime Squad

Alot of my time lately has been taken up analyzing and playing a game called “Liberal Crime Squad”

It is this wonderful little world where history has taken a bit of an alternate turn. Set right about now(it keeps moving up as new versions get released) The game is set about two diametrically opposed worldviews. Liberalism and Conservatism. And Conservatism is winning. Here is the text when you begin your game.

A NEW CONSERVATIVE ERA

The year is 2009.

Conservative President Tim Storm ends his second term with approval ratings in the high 70s, and is succeeded by hardcore Arch-Conservative Tim Grover.

With Conservatives sweeping into power in the House of Representatives and Senate, and a Conservative majority in the Supreme Court of the United States, commentators are hailing it as the beginning of a new Conservative era.

President Tim Grover(random name:) has asked the new Congress to move quickly to rubber stamp his radical Arch-Conservative agenda. The left seems powerless to stop this imminent trampling of Liberal Sanity and Justice.

In this dark time, the Liberal Crime Squad is born…

You play the game as a radical Political Activist, whos history is chosen by you at the beginning, seeking to stem the tide of the Conservative revolution in any way you can, and bring the country to an Elite Liberal utopia.

On your side are every Liberal, Moderate, or even Conservative citizen of your home town you can sway to your cause through your intense persuasiveness and gigantic Heart. With their help, you raid such Conservative Establishments as the AM Radio Station, Cable News network, Sweatshop factories, and CEO Headquarters. Destroying and stealing equipment, uncovering hidden data files. Releasing Liberal Prisoners, and bringing the media’s light to shine on their Conservative Iniquities.

So long as you can keep public opinion on your side, the country will slowly slide out of it’s downturn and an Elite Liberal Utopia will rise, where Animals are People, the Death Penalty is a thing of the past. Nuclear power is banned, the police are nightstick wielding automatons powerless to Oppress the People, and everyone’s privacy is fully and completely respected.

There are actually a total 22 Issues the country rails around, any of which can range from Arch-Conservative to Elite Liberal, or anywhere in between, and whos effects can actually be seen in the game as the country slides one direction or another. In the Arch-Conservative endgame, you will see Child Workers, Mutants galore, Police Deathsquads, and gangs of children wielding AK-47s will be roaming the streets.

And, perhaps best of all, the game is open source, so if you have the inclination, you can pore over and zoom through every facet of the game, finding out what affects what, how things work, and even modify it. It is actually wonderfully easy to read, and so long as you have some form of grep-like functions(grep is a command that will search any number of files for an arbitrary bit of text you supply to it) you can quickly find any bit of information you’re looking for.

There are probably many more things I could say about the game, but I want to get back to playing it, so I’ll just link to it instead.
