Cheat Sheet for Life

1. Every thought is an order, from yourself, to yourself, dictating how you act and react in situations where you’re not really paying attention(Hint: That’s pretty much all the time)

2. There is no such thing as the future. Or, more accurately, the future will always be in the future. The only way to change the future is to change, at some point, the present moment. Saying “I really wish I was able to…” can continue to be true, without effort, simply by never actually accomplishing it. If you say instead “I am able to, and always…”, then you will be giving yourself a declaration that won’t be fully satisfied until you’ve done what you want to have done to make it true.

3. There is no such thing as no.  Or, more intuitively, telling someone not to do something will typically have the expected effect of having them do it anyway. More accurately, saying “not” something, is often the same as saying it without the “not”, little quirk of thought, negating something doesn’t fundamentally change the thought behind it, only tacks on an easily misplaced marker. Redirect the thought instead to something you can act to make true, rather than directly focusing on something you want to keep from being true.

4. There is no such thing as other people. Or rather, everyone else is also you. Or, more accurately, every thought you have, whether it’s about you, or someone else, or everyone else, is still a command, directed at you. The more you focus on things you don’t like about other people, the more likely you are to embody them. So focus instead on things you appreciate, and turn negative thoughts about other people around to what you would rather have had happen instead.

5. To make a thought intentionally stronger, add emotion, and repetition. The stronger the emotion, or the more often you repeat it, the more of an effect it has. When correcting yourself, make sure to at least match the intensity of the thought you’re trying to correct.

Keep these things in mind, and you’ll be well on your way to taking advantage of all the opportunities that fly by you day by day when you’d otherwise be too busy to notice.
